The guiding soul behind Levellers!

Hi, I am Samruddhi S Chaphale. I am an architect, teacher, speed skater, artist and a story teller. I’m the proprietor and principal architect at Sam's Drafting Board established in Nagpur, INDIA wherein my design work ranges from commercial, education, hospitality, residential & non-profit sector & is spread in different parts of the country. I am also the curator & tutor at SDB Design workshops where I share my professional experience on “Conceptual Visualization” with the students through talks, project visits & Q+A. Through my design practice, I want to advocate works of social change. With this in mind, I have recently started Levellers Foundation, as its founder and director, with co-believers, which is an Indian not-for-profit association and architects' group that focuses on building architecture and design accessible and impactful in the development sector. Just four months before graduating in 2014, I donated part of my liver to my Father. At that point, I never thought I’d lose him but everything happened quickly. I was bed ridden right before my final year jury and had to perform for my final thesis two months from then. I was mentally & physically in a very bad place. The image of my father fighting his disease became my inspiration, if he could fight through that, then I could do anything. I submitted my thesis, and here I am. Today, my beloved mother and two sisters are my biggest cheerleaders and critics and my friends are my biggest fans! So, it is only looking forward and onwards from here! I am very instinctive in nature and hence follow my gut! I roller skate, maintain a personal diary as a bed time ritual which is where all these ideas brew before I share it with the world. I seldom sketch and paint too. You will often find me sketching at my own project sites. I enjoy gifting potted plants at all occasions. I love to talk. Infact, I think, speak and write in the same length. I m a believer of actions and my journey and body of work is a testimony of that. In my role as a part of the Levellers Foundation, I aim to follow my heart, and fulfill the quest of being able to give back to the world. I believe our skillsets have a bigger role to play. This platform is a dream to exactly fulfill that. It has also given me an opportunity to work with co-believers and I’m enjoying this team work and learning in the process.
