SALAMATI 1.O- for women construction workers
On this #labourday we want to throw light on the fact that women workers in the construction sector, the second largest employer of women after agriculture, are disproportionately affected by issues like nature of work, lack of facilities, lack of skill upgradation, lack of awareness about health, safety and rights, lack of choice! Not only at their work place but also at their homes. Many women construction workers suffer from illnesses but delay treatment due to the lack of options before them.
Project Salamati is thus initiated with an aim to work closely with our hardworking women construction workers in understanding their problems and educating them on health, safety and well-being. It also aims to create awareness about their rights. Our experts include architects, planners, doctors, volunteers and social activists who have come together to participate and mentor.
Salamati 1.0 was conducted on 13th April’ 23 at Cure Diab- health management centre. A total of fifteen women construction workers led by contractor, Santosh Baviskar attended the event. It began with the introduction of the idea behind the project and its objectives and a beautiful prayer. Followed by meditation and a conversational session on women’s health, diet and well-being by doctors at CureDiab. We later mentored the construction workers on safety measures for their jobs along with provision of safety gear (helmet, jackets and cap) contributed by GMIPL. The final leg of the event included provision of health, safety and well-being kit that included a jute bag, steel water bottle, sanitary pads, dupattas, caps, cloth masks, Shatavari kalp, Bindis at the hands of Smt. Hemalata S Chaphale, Director, Levellers Foundation. We then performed health check-up and treatment. The event concluded with offering of Satvic salad.
